Clasps
Our cultured freshwater pearl, Swarovski crystal, most of our gemstone and Cat's Eye designs use sterling silver and gold-filled parts. Some of our gold-filled parts are vermeil, which is gold-fill on sterling silver. We also use pieces with plating called silvertone or goldtone. This coating is more durable than silverplate and goldplate. We try to note in the description of the pieces what type of metal is used. When you customize a clasp, if the clasp is made of silverplate or goldplate, a price adjustment is made to make the piece with a sterling silver, gold-filled, vermeil, or 14k clasp. Be aware that the precious metal clasp design may vary from the plated. We do not stock 14k gold clasps, but we can special order. A change from sterling silver to gold will also require a price adjustment. If you want a clasp that you do not see here, e-mail us and we will see what we can do. For a secure hold, the jewelry industry recommends the double safety Pearl Hook, though the toggle is secure and simpler to use. We offer the traditional lobster clasp and a heart lobster clasp as well as the hook and eye. Under our magnetic clasps, we have a plated double cone and a sleeve style. On the sleeve style, part of one side of the clasp slides into a "sleeve" on the other side. The sleeve style is available in sterling silver but not in gold. Our favorite magnetic sleeve are the little but powerful buttons in sterling silver and gold-filled.
